1: Online Orientation

2: New Student Advising and Registration (NSAR)

A. Though you may register for any virtual or in-person NSAR date, Honors College Advisors will be present for consultation only on select dates, beginning the week of June 10. Students in the colleges below are expected to schedule their NSAR on the following dates, when possible:

– College of Business Administration (CBA): Tuesday, June 16 or Thursday, July 16 (Business Scholars)

– College of Engineering:  Wednesday, June 10 or Wednesday, June 17

– College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS): Wednesday, June 10, Wednesday, June 24, or Tuesday, July 14

Note: If you do not see a preferred NSAR date for your program, you can choose any registration date offered by your degree college. Please message the Honors College if you have any inquiries or need additional support.

B. First year Honors College students will register for:

– HON 222 (CRN 42829) This registration is zero credit hours and represents your participation in the Honors College; it is not a “class” and has no meeting times or assignments.

– HON Core General Education course (3 credit hours). Explore the Honors Core descriptions through the Fall 2026 Honors Courses List located on our Honors College Courses website.

– First Year Seminar (usually 1 credit hour) LAS students will register for HON 101; all other students register as recommended by your degree college. If your college recommends it, you may take the FYS in the Spring semester. Descriptions for the first-year seminars are available on the First-Year Seminars website.

3: In-Person Orientation

You are strongly encouraged to select between the Tuesday, June 23 Honors Only UIC Orientation, Thursday, July 9 Honors Preferred UIC Orientation, or Thursday, July 30 Honors Preferred UIC Orientation. You may substitute another date if necessary for your schedule.

4: Honors College New Student Welcome

All incoming first-year students are expected to attend the Honors College New Student Welcome that will take place on Friday, August 21, from 12:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. (check-in 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.). More details to follow soon.

This mandatory event is for incoming first-year Honors students only. Reunite with the friends you made at Orientation, connect with the Honors Ambassadors, and meet members of the Honors College Advisory Board (HCAB), along with Honors College faculty and staff!

We will take a group picture and you will meet with other students in your Honors College core class. There will be games, a mini-conference, & a snacks.

RSVP is required (invite will be sent to your UIC email address).

Honors Navigate, which is our mandatory orientation for newly admitted honors students. The Honors College advising team is excited to welcome you to our community of scholars and share important insight into navigating your Honors College experience at UIC. Navigate will include a walkthrough of the Honors College space, use of our computer lab to register for an honors course, and some honors college swag.
