Honors College students who submit a complete application by the priority deadline of October 5th will be eligible to receive an automatic $1,250 grant from the Honors College to reduce the overall cost of the program. (First-come, first-served, as funding is limited to 20 students.) In addition, students can apply for Honors College Study Abroad Scholarships and other funding is available.
Program Overview
What better way to spend your spring break than in London learning about 1960s pop culture!
Embedded in Spring 2026 Honors course: HON 124 POP! Art and Culture that Rocked British Society in the 1960s (3 credits, 3 HUs), you will have the opportunity to use London as your living textbook as you visit museums and sites connected to the art, music, fashion, and political changes discussed in class. Guest lectures from local experts and curators will complement your in-country learning.
In this course, students will learn about the far-reaching changes that swept the UK in the 1950's and 1960's, exploring topics such as shifting notions of class and gender; Pop Art and Op Art movements; 1960's photography, fashion, design and film; "Swinging London;" and the music of the Beatles and Rolling Stones.
Eligibility & Application Process
Honors students who meet the following eligibility criteria are invited to apply to this program:
- Have completed 1 semester (minimum of 12 credits) at UIC by the time the program begins
- Be in good standing both academically and according to UIC’s Community Standards.
- Admission priority is given to Honors College students. You must be in good standing with the Honors College.
