Spring Convocation 2021

The UIC Honors College invites you to participate in the Class of 2021 Virtual Commencement Ceremonies!

Event Spring 2021 Honors College Convocation

The Honors College is committed to recognizing the Spring 2021 Honors College Graduates.

You have worked so hard to get to this point, and we want to celebrate your achievements.  We will mail you a gold Honors stole and certificate of Honors College membership as visible symbols of your accomplishment with intended delivery by May 8.  We will also compile a list of all graduates and their awards and other recognitions to be shared in a public manner through our website.

Please submit your graduation declarations by no later than April 16, 2021

TO PARTICIPATE: Please submit your GRADUATION DECLARATION.

GRADUATION DECLARATIONS ARE DUE APRIL 16, 2021.

In addition, check back regularly as we look for additional ways to share in this milestone, even if we must do so virtually!

Honors Capstone Heading link

The Capstone Completion Form must be submitted by Friday, April 30. You must complete your Capstone, including submission of your final work to the HON 322 Blackboard site and final approvals of your Capstone completion in HARS, to receive your gold stole and certificate.

Graduating Student Speaker(s) Heading link

The Honors College would like to provide you with an opportunity to share your graduation message with your peers.  We will feature at least one Graduating Student Speaker in the virtual convocation ceremony.  Additional video messages may be featured on the Honors College Convocation website.

If you would like to be considered for our Graduating Student Speaker, please submit a draft of what you would say in your address to Stacie McCloud at smccloud@uic.edu by Friday, April 9.  You should plan on speaking for 3-5 minutes.

Riddle Prize for Outstanding Graduate Heading link

The Honors College proudly awards the Donald and Leah Riddle Prize to one outstanding graduating senior regardless of major field.  While we will be unable to recognize the recipient at the Convocation, we aim to continue the selection process. The award is based on academic excellence and leadership. The winner receives a bronze medallion and a $1,000 cash prize. The Riddle Prize is made each year in recognition of the former UIC Chancellor Donald Riddle and his wife Leah and honors the Riddles’ contribution to the campus.

The application is available through UIC SnAP.  It requires a one-page resume, a personal statement, and at least one letter of recommendation.  To apply, please visit here.

Faculty Awards: Outstanding Fellow, Outstanding Instructor, Outstanding Capstone Supervisor Heading link

If you have a Fellow, Capstone supervisor or HON course instructor who you think is especially terrific, please take a moment and nominate them for:

The nomination deadline has been extended to Friday, April 9th. The judges will use your short nominating paragraph as the basis for their decision, so please take a few minutes to think of a few reasons why the person you are nominating deserves this honor.

This is our chance to recognize and thank the faculty who are making an impact in the Honors College. You can nominate in all categories, and you may nominate the same person for more than one category.  Here is the link.

Latin Honors Policy Heading link

Latin Honors listed below will appear on UIC transcripts for undergraduate students who earned degrees Summer 2004 or thereafter.

Summa Cum Laude 3.90 and above GPA
Magna Cum Laude 3.75 to 3.89
Cum Laude 3.50 to 3.74

Summa Cum Laude (Gold) = Highest praise
Magna Cum Laude (Silver) = High praise
Cum Laude (Bronze) = Praise

UIC will reserve the right to make permanent adjustments to the list of students receiving Latin Honors based on final semester grade point average.  For additional information, please contact the Office of the Registrar.
