About

Brandon Ishikata serves as an Honors Academic Advisor, Program Specialist in the areas of Leadership & Service, and HON 101 instructor. Prior to joining the Honors College team, he oversaw operations of the UIC Visitors Center and supervised university's official tour guides, the UIC Student CORPS.  With his previous professional experiences at San Diego State University (SDSU), Loyola University Chicago (LUC), University of Hawai'i at Mānoa, and Columbia College Chicago, Brandon brings an interdisciplinary, student centric lens towards helping honors students become their authentic selves. He is passionate about dance, leadership studies, and human development as noted in his master’s degree ethnography entitled, "Shall We Dance?": An Ethnographic Study Analyzing Leadership Lessons Learned at a Chicago Social Dance Studio.”

Brandon earned his B.A. in Liberal Studies, cum laude & CA Elementary Education Teaching Credential from SDSU (Go Aztecs!), M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration, Alpha Sigma Nu honors from LUC (Go Ramblers!), and is a certified 200-hour yoga instructor. Beyond UIC, he enjoys traveling with his family in their quest to see all 50 states, cooking Japanese food, and talking in figurative language. Look out for him pirouetting or Cha-Cha-Cha lock stepping down the hallways of Burnham Hall!
