Nicole Nguyen will bring taboo conversations into the public space and inform abolitionist organizing.
Nguyen is associate professor of educational policy studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her research, teaching, and movement work focus on the relationship between national security and public schooling. She collaborates with community organizations to examine, and challenge, antiterrorism initiatives that increasingly call on teachers and other social service providers to identify and report potential terrorist threats through their everyday work with young people. Nguyen is author of A Curriculum of Fear: Homeland Security in U.S. Public Schools and Suspect Communities: Anti-Muslim Racism and the Domestic War on Terror.
