Issy Márquez joined the Honors College in Fall 2024 as a Honors Academic Advisor and Capstone Specialist. Issy graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in 2021 with a bachelor's degree in English, Political Science, and Latino/a Studies. During her undergraduate experience, Issy worked as a resident assistant in university housing, studied abroad in Costa Rica, and held internships within the college of liberal arts and humanities research programs. She worked closely with minority student affairs, tutoring with the TRIO Upward Bound Program and becoming a Ronald E. McNair Scholar. Moreover, Issy was the recipient of the Lincoln Laureate award her junior year. She then graduated with her master’s degree in English at UIUC in 2023, where she was a research assistant, instructor of record, and scholarship recruitment coordinator. Issy started her Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction: Literacy, Language, and Culture in Fall 2024 at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). Before joining the Honors College, Issy was a Learning & Development Specialist for the University of Illinois System and a Resident Director in Champaign.
Issy is very excited to join the UIC community as both a student and advisor! She looks forward to working with students embarking on their research journeys. When she’s not doing homework, Issy loves to teach Zumba, watch reality tv and music videos, or get her nails done.
During her undergrad, Issy completed the following honors activities: internships, independent study, tutoring, honors courses, study abroad, and Capstone.
